With temperatures soaring, we are all eager to shed the layers even when you’re at your 9-5. Nowadays, a lot of employers are implementing more casual dress codes. With that said, a general rule of thumb for me is that if you question whether or not an item is appropriate to wear to work – pass on it. However; if there is something that you absolutely want to wear that might teeter on the side of being a little risqué for work, chances are you can pull it off with some clever styling techniques.
Off the shoulder styles are proving to be summer’s style MVP. Everywhere you shop, you’ll find shoulder baring styles hanging on racks. No doubt the style is super cute but a tad inappropriate for work.
Here are some easy style fixes to keep your off the shoulder top professional while you celebrate the warm temperatures.
EASY STYLE FIXES
Top it Off– Bardot tops/ dresses which leave the shoulders fully exposed can be topped off with a duster, blazer or even a vest to create polish. It’s a win-win because you can wear the cute style and still be work appropriate. You can ditch the cover up when you go on break or after work and be happy hour ready in an instant.
Minimize Exposure– Tops with shoulder cut outs aren’t as racy as total shoulder baring styles. These are a little more acceptable in the work place. Try wearing a buttoned down shirt with shoulder cut outs, tailored dress pants and V-cut heels make the style work appropriate.
Add Polish– Creating a polished look is the key to a great look for work.
- Maintained coiffed hair plays a huge part of your style. A sleek chignon or voluminous curls are great summer styles. Don’t be afraid to use product to keep your fresh styles in place.
- Keep it simple for a timeless and versatile look with minimal bedazzled elements and other sparkly elements or embroidery.
- Tasteful accessories, such as a scarf tied around the neck and/or tasteful jewelry will elevate your look; but also create cohesiveness.
