What I Wore

The 4th and Beyond

The 4th of July is meant for barbecues,
beer and hanging out with the people who mean the most to you. That means a fancy frock is not required. Besides, we all know how messy barbecue food can be – so messy but oh so good!

Incorporating the colors red, white and blue into a look beyond the holiday isn’t unheard of; but wearing them on the 4th made me feel all sorts of festive. As a child I remember wearing tops adorn with stars and the American flag. It doesn’t get anymore patriotic than that. As an adult I like to create a chill look that is reflective of my personal style and with pieces that will get maximum usage.

White denim and chambray tops are summer style classics. Keeping my denim pristine was a concern, but that’s why I opted for denim; which can hold up against spills over linen or a finer fabric. Also, packing a Tide stick in my bag just in case was clutch. Accessories are the finishing touches to any great look. A red handbag and necktie added a subtle pop of color. These pieces can be worn together or separately long after the holiday. That’s exactly what I plan to do.
