Now that the glitz and sparkle of the holiday season is gone… what to wear? As we embark on a new year, a fresh look is key to help you make your mark. While you’re in the process of curating your refreshed look, it’s important to stay true to your own inherent style; but also be open to embracing new ways to ramp up your look.
Here are some styling tips to help you refresh your look and start the new year off on the right foot.
Layer like a Pro
Layers are a necessity during winter in the Northeast. At times piling on the layers can feel dowdy. However; there is an art to layering that can compliment your shape and keep you warm.
- The right fit. Wear fitted layers closest to your body to create a sleek shape. If you’re planning on wearing a chunky knit sweater opt to pair it with sleek leather skinnies or a slinky maxi skirt.
- Definition. Create a waistline by belting your top layer. You can also wear a style that is fitted to your body until it reaches your natural waistline and then flares out away from your body. This will aid in defining your waistline but also give you the appearance of curves.
Play with Texture
A look that involves textures creates an outfit with dimension. Wearing the same texture head to toe can cause your look to fall flat.
- Opposites attract. The most appealing pairing of textures comes from opposite sides of the spectrum, e.g. leather paired with wool, tweed or knits. This styling trick will yield a über chic ‘fit.
- Make a statement. Fringe isn’t a new trend; but there is something about the movement of the fabric that stands out. You’ll want a standout/ statement making piece. We all know that dressing for winter can be a drab. Why not make things interesting with a little fringe?!
Did you know that today is Blue Monday? It’s noted as one of the most depressing days of the year. Add an extra piece of flair to your look to keep the positive vibes flowing or buy a new pair of shoes… that always cures my case of the Mondays.
