Shop Your Closet: Fall Wardrobe Essentials (you already own)

As much as I have been dreading this, it is finally time to bid adieu to summer. As I look on the bright side, I am eager to wear fall fashion. I have been perusing the sites of all my favorite retailers and spotting the items I’d love to add to my wardrobe. I’m sure that you all are doing the same thing; however before you checkout and pony up for the latest styles, your closet is likely to hold pieces that will measure up to the latest styles. Prior to making any apparel purchases, I like to evaluate what I already own and purchase with purpose, by making sure that the new purchases are adding value to the items already in my closet.

Fall Wardrobe Essentials You Already Own

Blanket scarfs have made a really impact on all fashion girls’ wardrobes. Last year, everywhere you turned there was someone cozily (yet stylishly) wrapped up in an oversized blanket scarf. And yes, they are still in style! With so many options, it was hard for me to stop at only purchasing one. Similarly to there being a wide assortment of styles to choose from, there is also an infinite number styling possibilities, when it comes to wearing your scarf. I turned my blanket scarf into a little bolero. While I am slowly accepting the fact that it is no longer summer, surrendering to wearing a coat at this point is too much for me. I’m taking baby steps. A blanket scarf is a great alternative to wearing a jacket. I love the way the scarf formed a high collar; which allowed it to truly mimic a jacket-like shape (without having to actually wear a jacket).

Black pants are really an all season essential wardrobe item. These are something that everyone should own – and not just any ordinary black pants, a pair of black pants that flatter your body type as if they were made specifically for your body. I chose a high waist cigarette pant. High waist pants are my favorite because they offer a tummy slimming effect and can be worn with tunics (tucked in or out) and crop tops. Black pants don’t have to be boring. You can make them more eye-catching with the help of a fitted white scoop neck tee, a statement necklace and heels in an expected pop of color.

A tunic is a wardrobe MVP. They are flattering on all body types, can be worn alone or layered under a bomber jacket or blazer and are versatile, as they can be worn casually or dressed up. This tunic is a little fancy. It has sheer sleeves, and faux leather embellishments on the cuffs. The top is flattering for my figure without being skintight. During the fall, tunics can easily become a part of your go-to uniform by wearing them with tall boots, leggings and topped with a scarf.

Before you checkout, check-in with your closet to uncover the style potential hanging around, ready to be put into rotation.
